SORAYA BASIRAN

Amsterdam-based Soraya Basiran (1979) is a dynamic fashion illustrator, artist, and stylist who has recently joined the talent roster of I Love Illustration Agency. With a background in fashion design, Soraya honed her skills at the renowned Fashion Design program in Amsterdam. Her career took shape through a pivotal internship at Elle, which led to a successful career as a stylist, collaborating with influential magazines such as VOGUE and prestigious fashion houses like Tommy Hilfiger.

PASSION FOR FASHION ILLUSTRATION

Soraya’s passion for drawing has always been a central part of her creative identity. Her fashion illustrations are instantly recognizable for their edgy style, defined by swift, exaggerated primary lines and shapes in bold colors. Her expressive figures, depicted with long, elegant fashion legs for dramatic flair, are often enhanced by digital manipulation.

FASHION AS TRANSFORMATION

For Soraya, fashion is not just about clothing but a transformative experience. "I turn women into superheroes. You transform, so to speak, once you put on your ‘suit,’" she says. Her artistic creations capture delicate figures adorned with bold, expressive garments, portraying a powerful blend of vulnerability and strength in dynamic poses.

CREATIVE PROCESS

Her creative process often begins with a feeling, shape, or color. Using materials like acrylic paint, ecoline, and markers, Soraya creates striking live illustrations. She works both analog and digitally, enhancing her creations with digital manipulation to bring out even more expression and depth.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

Soraya’s work has been showcased in prestigious exhibitions, including I Love Illustration Gallery in Amsterdam and Haze Gallery in Berlin. She was also selected for the virtual exhibition IFIW TOP 100 International Fashion Illustration Week 2024, further cementing her global recognition. Additionally, her illustrations have been featured in the book New Fashion Illustration: 50 Essential Contemporary Artists and various fashion magazines.
