THE SUMMER SHOW

The Summer Show

GROUP EXHIBITION

12 June - 22 August  2021

Three Dutch artists were selected to show their interpretation of the summer 2021 collections and street style looks of the international catwalks. Original work for very affordable prices. To celebrate summer and the new freedom!

Soraya Basiran, known for her powerful lines and strong use of color, draws and sketches fashionable tough women with ecoline and paint.  She studied Fashion Design in Amsterdam. She did an internship at Elle and after graduating she starts working as a stylist and works for magazines such as VOGUE and fashion labels such as Tommy Hilfiger. She has always been drawing. Soraya's fashion illustrations are recognizable by an edgy style: exaggerated primary lines and shapes in dazzling colors, often digitally manipulated. “I start with a feeling, shape or color. Then I sketch and draw with all kinds of material that I love, such as acrylic paint, ecoline and marker. ”Fashion is a transformation for her. “I turn women into superheroes. You transform, as it were, as soon as you put on your "suit". My creatures are always fragile with very large garments in expressive poses. ” For this exhibition, Soraya was inspired by the couture show of Valentino ("Those golden platform shoes, so fantastic! The models looked like goddesses out of space.") And the classy style of Gucci, in which the own employees modeled. "I also loved the oversized image and the beautiful colors of RAF Simons and Marni and the voluminous looks of Loewe."

Willemien Ebbinge makes trendy Street Style drawings with crayons.  She worked after her studie Graphic Design at the Utrecht School of the Arts, for 20 years as an art director at advertising agencies. She has been an independent entrepreneur since 2010 and is hired by companies as a creative concept thinker. Last year she started illustrating. Her trademark: tiny drawings that are extremely powerful despite their size, thanks to the use of color. As she describes it herself: "I scribble XXXS drawings (I call them 'Petietjes') of situations, people and things that I encounter in my daily life or on vacation." During the lockdown she gained new inspiration. “I checked all the hashtags of other creatives I follow. In addition, I wandered through the city and nature and reminisced about great holiday moments. Drawing and scratching with my crayons.” For this exhibition she was asked to draw the street style looks 2021.

Antonia Timmermans
(Tonny) creates stylish analog collages. She was already involved with fashion as a little girl. The clothes of her Barbie, the Sissie movies, she loved to see how clothes can enchant you. “Clothing is so expressive; thanks to the shapes, colors and endless combination possibilities you can always be who you want. ” She went to the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht and eventually ended up in the classroom herself: from 1982 to 2009 she worked as a teacher at various fashion courses in Amsterdam and Breda. In the meantime, she set up the Antonia shop in Amsterdam, which caused a furore in the 90s with young Dutch fashion designers such as Gletcher, Illustrious Imps, Lawina, Orson & Bodil and the shoes of Lola Pagola. Even more famous than her shop are her ultra stylish collages. She has been making them since her academy days, but since the beginning of 2011 she has been a professional collagist. She works on commission for many magazines and newspapers, such as Elle, Harper's Bazaar, L'Officiel, WOTH, De Volkskrant, but also for fashion labels such as Claudia Sträter and PAUW. In addition, she makes free work. “I do that old school, with paper, cutting and pasting. I work intuitively, while cutting and later sliding the parts an idea arises for a combination. Sometimes this also happens by coincidence. Colors are important, there must be a surprise, the collage must tell a story or indicate an atmosphere. ” - Text by Elleke van Duin
