Opkomend mode-illustratietalent gezocht!

Ter ere van Amsterdam’s 750-jarig bestaan bundelen De Hallen Amsterdam en I Love Illustration Gallery hun krachten voor AMSTERDAM MODESTAD – een grootschalige expositie als visuele ode aan de stad.

Van 30 augustus t/m 28 september staat mode-illustratie centraal in De Hallen. Tien toonaangevende illustratoren uit Amsterdam tonen hun persoonlijke visie op de modecultuur van de stad – waaronder één opkomend talent dat via deze open call wordt geselecteerd.

Curator Anneke Krull, oprichter van I Love Illustration Gallery, stelde de kunstenaarslijst zorgvuldig samen. De tentoonstelling viert tevens het vijfjarig jubileum van haar galerie – de enige in Nederland die zich exclusief richt op mode-illustratie als autonome kunstvorm.

Zoeken wij jou?

We zijn op zoek naar de nieuwe generatie mode-illustratoren  die hun eigen, persoonlijke blik op Amsterdam als modestad durven te laten zien. Ben jij het talent dat mode op een gedurfde, expressieve en originele manier kan verbeelden? Durf jij je visie te delen en de modecultuur van Amsterdam op jouw unieke wijze tot leven te brengen? Dan willen we graag jouw werk zien!

Wat is de opdracht?

Maak één originele mode-illustratie die jouw persoonlijke blik op Amsterdam als creatieve modestad weerspiegelt.
Hoe zie jij mode in deze stad? Wat maakt het gedurfd, expressief en uniek? Laat je illustratie voor zich spreken – of dat nu via tekening, schilderij, collage of digitaal werk is.

We zoeken krachtig, origineel beeld dat een verhaal vertelt over wat mode betekent in het Amsterdam van nu.

Alle technieken zijn welkom – van analoog tot digitaal, collage tot schilderkunst – zolang jouw eigen, authentieke artistieke stem naar voren komt.

Wie kan meedoen?

Deze open call is bedoeld voor aanstormende illustratoren en kunststudenten uit Amsterdam (en omstreken) die aan het begin van hun carrière staan.
Gebruik jij mode als visuele taal om ideeën te delen, sociale thema’s aan te kaarten of schoonheid te vieren? Dan horen we graag van je!

Wat kun je winnen?

De winnaar wordt opgenomen in de Amsterdam Modestad-expositie(30 augustus – 28 september 2025) – naast gerenommeerde kunstenaars zoals Piet Paris.

Jouw werk wordt:

• Geprint als XL-banner (150 x 250 cm) in de centrale passage van De Hallen Amsterdam
  
• Geëxposeerd als origineel werk in zowel de pop-up gallery als I Love Illustration Gallery
  
• Opgenomen in een live illustratie-performance tijdens Amsterdam Modestad

Een unieke kans om jezelf zichtbaar te maken voor een breed publiek, modeprofessionals en de creatieve scene van Amsterdam.

De jury

De inzendingen worden beoordeeld door een vakjury:

• Piet Paris – Icoon van de Nederlandse mode-illustratie
• Danie Bles – Directeur van Amsterdam Fashion Week
• Sophie Coorens – Communicatie, De Hallen Amsterdam
• Anneke Krull – Curator, I Love Illustration Gallery

De jury beoordeelt op creativiteit, technische vaardigheid en artistieke zeggingskracht.

Hoe doe je mee?

Stuur je inzending voor Amsterdam Modestad in vóór 30 juni 2025, 17:00 CET:

• Eén hoge resolutie scan of foto van een originele illustratie of schildering die jouw visie op mode in Amsterdam laat zien
  (max. 5 MB, verticaal formaat met 3:5 verhouding)
  
• Een korte motivatie  + BIO (max. 250 woorden)
  
• Een link naar of PDF van je portfolio

Bekendmaking

De winnaar wordt begin juli bekendgemaakt via de officiële kanalen van I Love Illustration Gallery en De Hallen Amsterdam.

Emerging fashion illustration talent wanted!

To celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, De Hallen Amsterdam and I Love Illustration Gallery are joining forces for AMSTERDAM MODESTAD – a large-scale exhibition and visual tribute to the city.

From August 30 to September 28, fashion illustration will take center stage at De Hallen. Ten leading illustrators from Amsterdam will present their personal vision of the city’s fashion culture – including one emerging talent  selected through this open call.

Curator Anneke Krull, founder of I Love Illustration Gallery, has carefully curated the artist line-up. The exhibition also celebrates the five-year anniversary of her gallery – the only gallery exclusively dedicated to fashion illustration as an autonomous art form.

Are we looking for you?
We’re searching for the new generation of fashion illustrators who dare to show their own personal vision of Amsterdam as a fashion city. Are you the talent who can capture fashion in a bold, expressive, and original way? Do you dare to share your vision and bring Amsterdam’s fashion culture to life in your unique style? Then we want to see your work!

What’s the assignment?

Create one original fashion illustration that reflects your personal vision of Amsterdam as a creative fashion capital. How do you see fashion in this city? What makes it bold, expressive, and unique? Let your illustration speak for itself – whether through drawing, painting, collage, or digital work. We’re looking for fresh, powerful imagery that tells a story about what fashion means in today’s Amsterdam. All techniques are welcome — from analog to digital, collage to painting — as long as your work expresses your authentic artistic voice.

Who can apply?

This open call is aimed at emerging Amsterdam-based illustrators and art students (and surrounding areas) at the start of their careers.
Do you use fashion as a visual language to express ideas, offer social commentary, or celebrate beauty? Then we want to hear from you!

What can you win?

The winner will be featured in the Amsterdam Modestad exhibition (August 30 – September 28, 2025), alongside renowned artists including Piet Paris.

Your work will be:

• Shown as an XL banner (150 x 250 cm) in the main passage of De Hallen Amsterdam
• Exhibited as original artwork in both the pop-up gallery and I Love Illustration Gallery
• Included in a live illustration performance during Amsterdam Modestad

This is a unique opportunity to gain visibility among a broad audience, fashion professionals, and Amsterdam’s creative community.

The Jury

Submissions will be reviewed by a professional jury:

• Piet Paris – Icon of Dutch fashion illustration
• Danie Bles – Director of Amsterdam Fashion Week
• Sophie Coorens – Communications, De Hallen Amsterdam
• Anneke Krull – Curator, I Love Illustration Gallery

The jury will evaluate all entries based on creativity, technical skill, and artistic depth.
