Meet Michelle Amo – one of the four Open Call talents selected by the jury for AMSTERDAM MODESTAD!

Michelle  created a LIVE fashion painting during the festive opening on Saturday, 30 August at De Hallen Amsterdam!

Michelle’s work is bold, joyful, and expressive. Rooted in her lived experience and inspired by the freedom and vibrancy of Amsterdam — from a flower-covered bike on a bridge to someone casually wearing their grandmother’s wedding dress — her illustrations spotlight powerful women of colour in couture-inspired looks. Vibrant, elegant, and full of life, Michelle’s visual world is a celebration of individuality, style, and cultural pride.

“I’ve been painting since I was a child — but it took me a while to realize I could make this my profession. What you see in my work is what I longed for growing up: representation. I celebrate Black joy, femininity, fashion, and colour — and I want to develop that visual power even further.”
